Greater Prospect Hill Historic District

The Greater Prospect Hill Historic District seeks to preserve the overall distinctive character of the Prospect Hill neighborhood by conserving its historic architectural fabric. Our design guidelines help to protect the Prospect Hill neighborhood regarding the demolition of properties, new construction (including additions), modifications to existing houses on the public-way façade and the removal of original materials. We also seek to assist new and existing property owners, architects and contractors who wish to live and/or work in the Greater Prospect Hill Historic District.
The Bloomington Municipal Code requires that a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) be issued for certain changes in historic districts. Our design guidelines inform the Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission (BHPC) when it considers whether to grant a Certificate of Appropriateness. Please follow the guidelines link below for more details about this process.
